The
weather of Delhi has been structured by its location. Delhi lies in
northern India and is flanked by lush green Aravalli Hills of Haryana on
one side, and the harsh semi-arid plains Rajasthan on the other. This
geography provides a very extreme range of temperature to Delhi. The
weather conditions of Delhi are quite varied with scorching summers and
chilling dry winters.Various Seasons
In summers (April to August), the days are unbearably hot due to scorching heat of the sun. The day temperature can soar up to as high as 480 C. Winter starts in November and is on its peak in January. Although winters are generally mild, Delhi's proximity to the Himalayas results in cold waves that regularly dip temperatures below freezing level. Delhi is notorious for its heavy fog during the winter season. During Monsoon (July and August) Delhi gets an average rainfall of approximately 714 mm.
Best Time to Visit
The city has a pleasant climate from February to March and from September to November. The best time to visit Delhi, especially for tourism purposes, is the spring (February to April) and autumn season (August to November) when the trees and the flowering plants are displaying all their glory.
