The temple complex, completed on 6th November 2005, has been built along the ancient banks of River Yamuna.

Akshardham Temple Statistics
Akshardham Temple in Delhi covers an area of approximately 86,342 sq ft (8,021.4 m2) with the compound being 141 ft high, 316 ft wide and 370 ft long. The temple is standing on gigantic 148 elephants, has eleven 72 ft high gilded mandapams (domes) and 1,160 ornate pillars. In addition there are many exhibition halls, kunds, upavans and centers.

The Halls
The first exhibition hall is called 'Sahajanand Pradarshan' and features life-like robots, dioramas, animatronics depicting scenes from Swaminarayan's entire life. The second hall is called 'Nilkanth Kalyan Yatra' and shows a specially made movie on huge IMAX screen tracing the enlightening journey Swaminarayan made during his teenage years. The third hall named 'Sanskruti Vihar' takes the visitors on a journey of ten minutes through 10,000 years of Indian history.

The Fountain and More
The Yagnapurush Kund is India's largest step-well and makes a traditional yagya kund. In the evening, a must watch light, sound and fountain show is held, which is among the best things here. The Bharat Upavan has lush manicured lawns and bronze statues of children, women and heroes of India who have contributed to the country in some way. The Yogi Hriday Kamal is a sunken garden shaped like a lotus with giant stone petals engraved with quotes from luminaries like Shakespeare, Martin Luther King, Swami Vivekananda and Bhagwan Swaminarayan.

The Premvati Ahargruh is the cafeteria modeled on the Ajanta and Ellora caves. It has the seating capacity of 5000 people at any given time and serves a variety of vegetarian items. Other than these, Akshardham Temple also has Nilkanth Abishek Mandapam, Narayan Sarovar and an assortment of ayurvedic products.
